A true account of a child’s first day

Once upon a time Ben started at a Day Nursery ….
He and his Dad were welcomed at the front door by Helen, who showed them the room where Ben would be beginning each day and introduced them to his ‘key-worker’. Helen explained that this was the person who would be looking after Ben for most of the time.

They all looked round the whole Nursery and Ben saw where the 2 babies slept and their separate playroom upstairs. He liked the messy room and the huge blackboard, and space to paint and glue and use clay. Helen told him there were lots of other things to do in this room too. Ben peeped into the room where there were tables and chairs. There was a computer in there! And jigsaws, books, construction sets that he would like to make something with, and games – lots to do. This room, Helen explained, was also used to eat lunch and tea when Ben would sit at a table with his key-worker who could help him if he needed it. A delicious smell was coming from the Kitchen and Ben decided he wouldn’t mind staying for lunch!

Then they all went into the garden where there was a slide. Ben couldn’t wait to have a go on the scooter, and rode round and round. He heard laughter coming from the Wendy House. There was a sandpit and a climbing frame, and then he joined someone playing with a huge ball. Some children were planting seeds. Ben would like to have stayed there but Helen asked of he’d like to come back to his playroom for a while and meet some other children his age, and later on they could go out into the garden together. As they went back inside Ben noticed the dressing up rack, a lovely home corner, the big Lego, train sets, road layouts, a T.V., and lots of friendly smiling faces. “Come and join in” they seemed to say – and he did!

A wonderful friendly home from home environment, I could not have asked for a better place.
